About Us.

Jim and Helen Cherry were originally dairy and sheep farmers and having had hands on experience of selling their produce to an unknown processor, felt there was a better alternative. The first shop was opened to provide farmers with realistic pricing for their products. More importantly it provided customers with somewhere to buy local and seasonal food at an affordable price. The ethos of selling only traceable British foods of quality and freshness, is maintained throughout the shops by constant auditing and direct contact with the producers.

At Taste of the Country we aim:

...to provide you with only British produce which is sourced locally wherever possible

...to reduce the food miles and instead increase the freshness of the produce

...to let you know where every product comes from, who produces it and how. None of our products are mass produced ensuring it tastes as good as it looks

...to check the ingredient listing on all our products, less really is more, when it comes to flavour

...to bring you produce according to the season, and enjoy the expectation of different products each month

...to give you value for money whilst maintaining realistic returns through the short supply chain to the producer.

We want you to enjoy the hard work, care and dedication of our producers, farmers and growers by eating British produce. There is so much fantastic, fresh and flavoursome produce and it’s on YOUR doorstep.

To help you make an informed shopping choice we have developed the FOOD FACT FILE. This contains information about all of our suppliers and their products giving a brief company history, production practices and some very interesting facts.

You will find one of these files in every store.
